 West Sumbawa, Sumbawanews.com.- PTNNT commenced the 2012 Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Campaign Month in an opening ceremony held at Batu Hijau mine site on Thursday (12/1), attended by employees, contractors, and government representatives."The commemoration of the OHS Day on 12 January 2012 is the third year for Indonesia to strive, participate actively and work collectively to support our grand dream of OHS-cultured Indonesia in 2015,” said Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Drs. H. A Muhaimin Iskandar, M.Si in his remarks read by Senior Manager of Occupational Health and Safety PTNNT, Sunarto Suwito. Meantime, PTNNT General Manager Operations David Lilley said our sustained focus on safety has resulted in Batu Hijau being one of the safest mines in Indonesia. Several efforts have been conducted by the employees and management with instructions from the government so that safety performance can continuously be improved. “This Occupational Health and Safety Campaign Month again provides us all with an opportunity to demonstrate our personal commitment to making Batu Hijau a safer place to work,” said David. He said that our success in making Batu Hijau site a safer place to work is clear evidence of the strong cooperation between the employees, management and stakeholders. “It will require an even greater personal commitment from all of us as we continue our journey in our effort to achieve our Vision of becoming the most valued and respected mining company through industry leading performance,” he asserted. PTNNT holds a number of events in relation to OHS Month, including OHS contests for employees, contractors and dependents [who live in Batu Hijau town site], socialization on OHS for communities around the mine, poco-poco dance competition, 5K marathon and photography. PTNNT has achieved several awards from RI government and international agencies. These include six gold certificates as the best large-scale mine company in Occupational Health and Safety (K3) programs from EMR Ministry, two Upakarti Aditama Trophies in OHS Program from EMR Ministry, six Green Proper Awards from the Environment Ministry, certification of OHSAS18001 for OHS Management System from Sustainability, Australia, Newmont Mining Corporation Award for Fatigue Campaign Program, and Newmont Mining Corporation Award for 40 million working hours without LTA for June 2007 – May 2009 period.
