 VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Tambangnews.com.- Southern Arc Minerals Inc. ("Southern Arc" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:SA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Steve Garwin, Ph.D., MAusIMM, FSEG to its Board of Advisors.
A native of the USA, Steve Garwin graduated with a B.Sc. Degree in Geology from Stanford University in 1984, and obtained an M.Sc. in Geology from the University of British Columbia in 1987.
Steve was awarded a Ph.D. (with distinction) in 2000 from the University of Western Australia for his doctoral thesis on the mineralization and the district geology of Newmont's world class copper-gold porphyry mine at Batu Hijau on Sumbawa Island, Indonesia.
He has been an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Centre for Exploration Targeting at the University of Western Australia since 2001 and has published numerous technical and research papers on epithermal gold, porphyry mineralization and exploration methodology. He is regarded as a leading authority on metallogenesis in the Asia - Pacific region.
Steve Garwin blends a distinguished academic background with more than 22 years experience as an Exploration Geologist with both major and junior mining companies working in SE Asia, China, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, western USA, British Columbia, Mexico, Peru and Chile. He worked with Newmont Mining for ten years, including two years as their Chief Geologist - Nevada.
Steve has extensive knowledge of porphyry, epithermal, and Carlin-style systems and applies methods of structural geology and geochemistry toward gold and base-metals exploration. He has been involved in several successful exploration and mining projects, including the Batu Hijau porphyry Cu/Au deposit, the Indo Muro epithermal Au/Ag vein system, and the Mesel sediment-hosted Au deposit, all in Indonesia; mines of the Carlin trend and Battle Mountain district in Nevada; and the Whistler porphyry deposit in Alaska.
Based in Perth, Australia, as an independent consultant, Steve has previously consulted for the Company on the structural setting of mineralization on its West Lombok property.
