With continued growth we are seeking additional resources that will be located at Senakin Mine Project, South Kalimantan as Geologist, and report to Superintendent - Engineering.

The successful candidate will provide geology and geotechnical investigation, coal quantity and quality, reserving and schedulling to maximise coal recovery in mining, wash plant and barging operation toward the long term and Profitability. They will also be required to demonstrate good management and communication skills.

Applicants should have a degree in Geology Engineering and have at least 3 years experience in similar role is preferred. Good communication skills in English and Bahasa, written & verbal, and Computer literacy. A working knowledge in mining principles, mining design concepts & operations, heavy mechinery operation practices, Mincom or similar would be an advantage.

Singapore, Gusnawan Adiputra, Reliability Improvement Analyst for PT. Kaltim Prima Coal, talks about the new ways of looking at performing routine equipment maintenance with Bryan Camoens. He also talks about the best preventive maintenance and talks about the current trends in mining maintenance management that will shape the future of the sector.

Bryan Camoens: Could you please outline the new ways of looking at performing routine equipment maintenance?

Gusnawan Adiputra: The most important thing in Maintenance is how we control our failure or breakdown.  And to control our breakdown, we must acknowledge our failure characteristic. Routine maintenance is part of result of failure characteristic identification. It will become useless if there are no high quality implementations of the routine maintenance. Uncontrolled quality of performing routine maintenance means that failure cannot be controlled. And it became worst if there are no performing routine maintenance, It will make us to prepare low productivity.

Bryan Camoens: In your experience what is the importance of periodic and essential preventive maintenance?

Gusnawan Adiputra: The best preventive maintenance is defined from analysis from failure mode in each site. Failure characteristic will be defined after studies on failure mode have done. Preventive maintenance standard usually use OEM standard as a preventive maintenance, but in advance preventive maintenance should be driven from experience. If we have done study of failure mode in advance, we will have huge function of preventive maintenance. Study in failure mode is consist of acknowledge the best activity to prevent each failure mode, to best cost (optimal cost) to prevent the failure, the best time to prevent the failure, and the best way to identify the failure (it is related with condition monitoring). After study of failure mode have completed and collected, we will have service package of preventive maintenance. Usually it is in periodic activity, because with periodic activity making plan and schedule will be easier. From this line, we will able to minimize breakdown and optimize equipment performance. The process of getting preventive maintenance activity showed how huge importance of preventive maintenance.

Bryan Camoens: Comparing the brands of lube filters, how difficult is it to manage fluids and lubricants?

Gusnawan Adiputra: In lube filter, I don’t have concern in Brand, but I have concern in what kind of filter that we need. Type of filter, Micron of Filter, and Beta Ratio of Filter are more important than brands.

Manage Fluid and lubricants are not easy to manage because it needs concern from all parties in maintenance. Start with how to determine lubricant that we need, it needs information from OEM and information from other site. Then Storage Handling, everyone must understand that we must ensure that lubricants are free from contamination before put into the machine. Then filling process, we need to ensure that we have filled equipment with clean and correct oil. Then sampling process, maintenance shall understand how is sampling process impact to the recommendation. With good sampling process, we will get accurate result of Lubricants Analysis and Accurate recommendation related with problem in equipment. It means that we get effective Lubricants analysis. Sampling process is not easy, it is related with what, when, how and where the best way of lubricants sampling. Long process needs difference section for more detail. Then Waste Handling, it is important to ensure that we don’t contaminate our environment.

Bryan Camoens: What are some of the current trends in mining maintenance management that will shape the future of the sector?

Gusnawan Adiputra:
Maintenance in Mining has mobile maintenance in the most. It means that mining maintenance management mostly will talk about mobile equipment maintenance management. Mobile equipment management is left behind fixed plant maintenance management (especially in Oil and Gas Industry). But in my point of view, these two maintenance management have similar basic thinking. I think it is a good sign for prospect of mining maintenance management. There are a lot of thing that can be generate in mining maintenance management. First, Mining maintenance management should start with define appropriate process of reliability management that need to be held in mining maintenance management. Second, Condition Monitoring System possibility to improve, there are a lot of condition monitoring system that can be used in mobile equipment. Third, Data integration is the common problem mining maintenance management, it will be a good prospect for Information Technology to develop infrastructure that can grab data from mining operation and maintenance operation.
